Human rights activist, Omoyele Sowore, has condemned the
arrest of Yoruba freedom fighter, Sunday Adeyemo (Sunday Igboho), by the
Nigerian government, saying there is no crime in asking for self-determination.
Sowore, who took to his Twitter handle on Tuesday, called on all oppressed Nigerians to unite against a government that pampers bandits and terrorists and arrests those clamouring for self-determination.
He wrote, “#FreesundayIgboho: The arrest of Sunday Igboho
in Cotonou by the Beninese authorities was orchestrated by tyrant Muhammadu
Buhari.
“No crime asking for self-determination. Let’s all
oppressed people UNITE. A government that pampers bandits and terrorists!

SaharaReporters reported exclusively on Tuesday morning
that Igboho was arrested in Cotonou, Benin Republic by security operatives in
the West African country.
This was after the agitator fled Nigeria to evade arrest
by Nigeria's secret police.
A source privy to his departure from Nigeria said he had
perfected plans to travel from Nigeria through Cotonou and was heading for
Germany.
He was, however, nabbed by security operatives in the
neighbouring country.
Speaking with SaharaReporters, a source privy to the incident had said, "Sunday Igboho has been arrested in Cotonou. He was arrested about an hour ago.
"He was supposed to travel to Germany through
Cotonou this night. He wanted to leave Africa through Cotonou. He was arrested
by security operatives in Cotonou.
"They are planning to bring him back to
Nigeria."
Igboho alongside Ilana Omo Oodua, the umbrella body of
Yoruba self-determination groups had consistently demanded self-determination
for the people of the South-West.
Encyclopedia Britannica defines self-determination as the process by which a group of people, usually possessing a certain degree of national consciousness, form their own state and choose their own government.
